Udaipur is one of the romantic places in India. The Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar built this city after the fall of Chittur in 1567.They also built the most fabulous palaces on islands in Lake Pichola at the heart of heritage city. The most outstanding building is City Palace.Enter from a massive courtyard through an enormous gate into the buildings that combine a tour across centuries. You can access for a small extra fee those areas that are now part of the hotels Shiv Niwas and Fateh Prakash. Also visit the Crystal Gallery.Udaipur has many palaces .The drive up to Sajjangarh called Monsoon Palaceis more interesting than the palace itself.Sahelion ki Bari is a garden laid for the royal women on the banks of Fateh Sagar with fountains and pavilions.A boat ride from the jetty at City Palace will liven up the day.One can also visit Jag Mandir the smaller of the palaces on the lake. Udaipur is a major shopping destination for miniature art, stone sculpture, silver jewellary and wooden toys.Around the Jagdish Mandir are stores that sell everything from miniatures to fake antiques. There are some very good hotels in Udaipur.
