Lansdowne - 2009-02-10

Lansdowne is one of the prettiest and quietest hill stations in India. It is located at an altitude of 5,597 feet in Pauri Garhwal ,40 km from Kotdwar.During the British period Lansdowne was one of the popular hill stations named after Sir Henry Charles Keith Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marques of Lansdowne, 6th Earl of Kerry and Viceroy of India from 1888 to 1894.Shaded, winding roads are still lined with colonial bungalows with ornate gates and window sills full of colorful bougainvillea. Tourists can walk in and around the gentle slopes. Silver fir, spruce and the bamboo forests cover the hills in and around Lansdowne. Do visit the British church once famous for stained glass windows.
